Lifeguard Training: Deep Waters
Prepare yourself to help others while giving you a wonderful job opportunity. Learn the duties and responsibilities of lifeguarding, including surveillance, how to use rescue equipment, and how to care for someone who has sustained an injury.
Prerequisites include: There is a pre-course session in which you are required to pass a swimming skills test which includes a 300 yard continuous swim (front crawl and/or breaststroke); treadwater for two minutes, using legs only; and swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a weighted object, return to the starting area, and exit the pool without using a ladder or stairs within 100 seconds.
Important: Students must purchase a participant manual and rescue-breathing mask before the first day of class, available at www.shopstaywell.com. The Y does not have manuals or masks to loan.
To successfully complete the course, students must attend and participate in all class sessions, pass a written exam with 80% or better and demonstrate competency in all skills both on land and in the water.
Upon completion of the Lifeguard Training course, participants receive the following:
- CPR/AED (2 year certification)
- Lifeguard Training & Standard First Aid (2 year certification)
