May 29: Opening Update

Dear Y Member and Friend,

As you know, the Y has been working toward and anticipating a June 1 limited opening. After conversations with the County, we’ve concluded the Y cannot open on Monday as hoped.

We will continue to follow the County’s Roadmap to Recovery, which was developed by a local advisory committee including county and city leadership, business representatives, law enforcement, public health officials, educators and others. You can read the report here.

The County has not yet made the attestation to the State of California to move to Stage 3, which is the safe reopening of organizations deemed a “higher-risk.” This includes gyms, fitness studios, nail salons, museums, movie theaters and others.

Until the County applies for and receives approval to move to Stage 3, the Y will continue to provide LIVE virtual services through Zoom and On Demand workouts on our website. The Y is working toward safely opening the fitness and aquatics center and continuing to provide our families with safe childcare. Thank you for “staying with us.”

We are expecting to open very, very soon and are ready when the County gives us the green light. In order to provide a safe and organized reopening, the Y has developed a ten-page phased operational plan, which includes a short “soft opening” with limited services and an expansion of our normal offerings as quickly as they can be provided safely.

While the Y may have some new protocols, our commitment to strengthening this community has not changed. We cannot wait to welcome back our members and staff.
