Partner with the Y in Supporting Those Affected by the Carr Fire

The Y is accepting monetary donations to go directly to help those affected by the Carr Fire. We expect the need for financial assistance for membership, child care and programs to be great, whether short term or long term. Families have had to incur the cost of evacuating, some have damaged homes, some lost homes, others lost jobs, routines have changed, and, for a lot of us, there is a loss sense of security. The Y can help.

The Y is a safe place where people can connect and share stories. It's a safe place for kids to play and for adults to exercise. Our teen, child care and child watch programs are led by caring adults who will offer routine and support to our youth. The Y is a place where everyone can take care of themselves spiritually, mentally and physically. We can provide some degree of normalcy and security. With your donation, we can help offset the cost of memberships, child care, teen programming, and other programs.

The Y has been offering free use of the facility to evacuees; free memberships to anyone who lost their home or is temporarily displaced; a free hourly day camp so parents can take care of fire-related chores and business. We have a board where people can post what they need or how they can help, and we're running a backpack drive for families affected by the fire. Thank you for your support!

DONATE NOW or call 530.246.YMCA or stop by the Shasta Family YMCA at 1155 N Court Street, Redding, CA  96001

Backpack Drive

Give One, Get One!

School is starting soon and many families will still be trying to recover from the fire. We want to help get kids ready! The Y is collecting filled backpacks for all ages.

We've had numerous families that have called in need. Even families that were evacuated are hurting because there was home damage and household funds are short.

Some suggested school items needed to fill the packs include #2 pencils, crayons, lined paper, markers, binders, glue sticks, crayons, markers, pens, etc.

Bring the backpack to the Y and we’ll get it to the students who need them! Thanks for helping us make the new school year special!

Facility and Program Updates

The outdoor pool  is currently open. It will remain open as long as smoke conditions do not worsen. If in doubt, please call the Y before you come to swim. 530.246.YMCA.

Update: on 8/13/18 the Outdoor Pool will be closed at 10:30 am for a brief respite, and will reopen at 12:00 pm.

The indoor sports court is open but we cannot run the swamp coolers until the smoke outside recedes.

The indoor pool is open for regular programming. We will try to accommodate open swim in the indoor pool from 9 am - 12 pm, 3 - 5:30 pm, and 6:30 - 7:30 pm.
