CEO Update

Thursday, November 05

Dear Member,

Due to the county transitioning back to Purple Tier (Widespread), we are following protocols and moving most of our services outside. As always, we are doing everything possible to continue to serve you. We know that exercise, routines and staying connected are critical during times like this and the Y is an important part of your life!

To follow the guidelines and serve you safely, starting Saturday, November 7:

  1. Access will be through the back gate to comply with the indoor group gathering restrictions. Member services will be inside the gate waiting to greet you. If you have scheduled the new Eureka Way Building (see below), you enter at the back door/ADA ramp at your designated time.
  2. Group exercise: Classes & programs will continue outside on the sports court. Cycling class will take place under the covered breezeway near the front entrance. Schedule coming soon.
  3. Basketball: Basketball is available on the outdoor court when classes are not scheduled. Schedule coming soon.
  4. Fitness Center & Power Rack Rooms: Weight Room and Power Rack Room reservations are available for weight lifting for 30-minute blocks up to 1 hour. If you want to only use cardio equipment or lighter weights, please reserve the Mezzanine or new Eureka Way Building (see below.) To be safe, we can allow one membership unit in the weight room and one membership unit in the power rack room at one time. Both rooms have separate doors for entry and exit. Please see our FAQ and policies.
  5. Fitness Center Mezzanine and new Eureka Way Building: Reservations are available for cardio and light weight lifting in these two areas. To be safe, we can allow one membership unit in these areas at one time. Please reserve these areas if you are only using cardio equipment and/or lighter weights allowing more time for those needing heavier weight lifting equipment. See our FAQ and policies.
  6. Outdoor lifting: The Y has limited free-weight equipment and mirrors outside. Members can use these weights on a first-come, first-served basis. Please keep 6 feet of separation.
  7. Cardio: Limited cardio equipment will be available on a first-come, first-served basis outside on the yoga deck. This equipment includes three elliptical machines, two upright bikes, one recumbent bike, one row machine and one air runner.
  8. Aquatics: Lap swimming, aqua aerobics, swim team, and lessons will continue as usual.
  9. Locker Rooms: Showers in the outdoor locker room are available for use prior to entering the pool. Please plan to shower at home after your exercise. Toilets are open in both the indoor and outdoor locker rooms. Three changing tents are available. Lockers are unavailable at this time to limit congestion.
  10. Child Watch is available inside the Y. Following the CDC, children 3 years and older need to wear a mask.
  11. Coffee will continue! To comply with regulations we will serve it outside and tables will be available for you to enjoy the beautiful fall weather.
  12. Virtual exercise classes continue and we have added yoga classes. If you are more comfortable at home, you do not need to miss your work out. Visit https://shastafamilyvirtual.y.org/ to access our digital offerings. Instructors can now lead classes in our studios to limit internet issues and distractions.
  13. Y Club remains open and is free for teens and preteens in our community for youth 10-19 years in our new Eureka Way Building from 12 to 6 pm on weekdays. Youth can receive academic support, enjoy games, and hang out with others. We are strictly enforcing mask rules if youth are closer than 6-feet from each other.

Please see schedules and reserve your times on Appointment King at http://www.sfymca.org or call 246-9622. Out of respect to other members, if you sign up, please show up. If you need to cancel, please cancel online our call us 246-9622.

Please continue to follow health protocols including wearing a mask when you cannot be 6-feet apart, wiping down equipment and staying home when sick or when exposed to others who are sick.

Thanks for staying with us and riding this together.

Purple Tier FAQ

Thursday, November 05

Frequently Asked Questions and Reservation Policies:

• Reservations are available 3 days in advance online at http://www.sfymca.org or by calling 246-9622. Please call 246-9622 at least two hours prior to your timeslot if you are unable to come. Due to limited space in classes, lap lanes, and the weight lifting areas, cancelling reservations helps us serve more people.

• Each membership unit can reserve the Fitness Center, Power Rack, Mezzanine and Eureka Way Building three times per week for one-hour blocks. After three reservations, the membership unit can schedule additional time by calling one hour before the desired time. If space is available, the member can then schedule the additional hour.

• Due to limited time slots, each membership unit can have one no-call, no-show for the Fitness Center, Power Rack Room, Mezzanine and Eureka Way Building. Please call 246-9622 at least two hours prior to your timeslot if you are unable to come. Upon the second no-call, no-show, the membership unit will no longer be able to reserve a time slot but is welcome to use the outdoor equipment on a first-come, first-served basis.

• On Saturday, the Y is open additional hours (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) for Fitness Center, Power Rack Room, and Mezzanine reservations. On Sunday, the Y lap pool will be open additional hours (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

• The CDC recommends that people wear masks any time individuals are within 6 feet of each other – indoors or outdoors. It is easier to stay 6 feet apart when we are outdoors, but when you get close to staff or other members, for example when checking in or getting equipment, we ask that you wear a mask. We are working hard to stay safe and support a healthy community. We appreciate your continued support and patience!

• According to the latest guidelines, the County will stay in Purple Tier for a minimum of 3 weeks. If our county’s COVID-19 cases decrease and the County officially moves back into the lower risk, Red Tier, your Y will move back indoors. The weather is still beautiful and exercising outdoors is a fun and healthy option!

• We are working on rain options and will let you know as soon as possible.
