Overnight Camp at Camp McCumber

Camp McCumber Important Announcement

Dear Camp McCumber Families & Friends,
It is with great sadness that we announce the heartbreaking decision to cancel the Shasta Family YMCA Camp McCumber 2020 Season. Shasta County regulations do not allow overnight camps to operate. The Y has explored every possible way that we might safely and effectively run camp. Guidance from the CDC, American Camp Association, and local health officials have led us to this decision. The health and safety of our campers and staff is our number one priority.
This is most certainly upsetting for campers who look forward to camp all year. We understand this news may be disappointing and adds to a long list of changes that you and your family are facing this year. Speak with your child about the cancellation of camp. Try to digest the news yourself before sharing the news with your camper.
This would have been our 67th year operating Y Camp McCumber. While we wish we did not have to make this decision, we know in our hearts that it is the correct one. Please know we will miss the friendships, growth, laughter, and memories of camp, and together, we will get through this time.
We are already looking forward to YMCA Camp McCumber 2021!

Here are options about Camp McCumber fees moving forward: For any fees paid, including deposits, we are providing two choices:
Donate: Consider a donation of some, or all, of the payments you have made. Thank you to everyone who is able to make this gift to us during a time of hardship.
Full or Partial Refunds: We know that many families are also facing their own hardships. We can process a full refund in the amount paid or you may choose to take a partial refund and make a donation with the remainder. Refunds will take up to 4 weeks.

Please email alease@sfymca.org to indicate your preference. Thank you for your patience as we expect hundreds of emails and calls over the coming days.

Y camps are about discovery

Kids have the opportunity to explore nature, find new talents, try new activities, gain independence, and make lasting friendships and memories. Children choose and participate in daily activities, including canoeing, fishing, archery, arts & crafts, hiking, campfires, chapel & sports activities. They learn respect for their fellow campers, for their own abilities, and for the natural beauty of the area. We make sure your children will have the opportunities for positive growth and development.

Camp is held at beautiful Lake McCumber, just seven miles east of Shingletown and twelve miles west of Lassen Volcanic National Park, off Hwy 44.  With a beautiful wooded area, lake and recreation facility, this site offers the activities of outdoor camping while supplying the comforts of home - electricity, hot showers, cozy cabins and cafeteria style meals.  The camp's elevation is 4,200 feet.
