Through our traditional mentoring
program, PlusONE matches youth aged 5 to 18 with
volunteer mentors who are willing to spend a minimum
of 1 hour per week for 1 year with the child. Through
the mentoring relationship, mentors help address risk
factors including: school performance and grades,
pregnancy, self-esteem, crime, violence, suicide,
anger, and domestic violence.
PlusONE works in
collaboration with Northern Valley Catholic Social
Services (NVCSS) and the North State Mentoring
Coalition to match children whose family members are
incarcerated with a mentor. This program is funded
through a federal grant. Children in this program
range in age from 4 to 15. The purpose of this
program is to provide extra support for the youth in this population since
they are at a greater risk of falling into the cycle of criminal behavior.
