Every afternoon around 3 PM, the Shasta Family YMCA's Y Club fills with the laughter and energy of youth. More than 120 students walk through our doors each day after school—some head straight for something to eat and a game of pool, others shoot hoops in the gym, and a few find a quiet spot to read, finish homework, or simply unwind.
These hours matter. Studies show that youth who participate in afterschool programs are 50 percent less likely to engage in risky behaviors and demonstrate improved grades, attendance, and social skills. In Shasta County, nearly 60% of students qualify for free or reduced‑price meals—underscoring the importance of safe, welcoming places where youth can enjoy a nutritious meal and positive connection after the school day ends.
For many kids, the Y is more than a place to spend time after school—it’s a space where they feel safe, supported, and encouraged to grow. From healthy meals to caring mentors, Y Club gives youth a positive environment to connect, recharge, and build lifelong skills.
Thanks to strong community partnerships and local support, this program continues to change lives every day.
A big THANK YOU to Dignity Health, US Bank, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, SINTF, Redding West Rotary, K2 Development, Tri Counties Bank, and Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund for the awarded funds directly in support of Y Club!
