The safety and well-being of children is, and always will be, the Y's top priority.

As a youth-serving organization that reaches 8 million children and teens every year, the Y’s most important work is creating safe environments for young people. Ensuring the safety and well-being of young people is foundational to everything we do at the Y to help them learn, grow and thrive.

At the Y we take all forms of child abuse seriously. When adults collectively understand the risks and red flags of abuse, we are being proactive and can do more to keep the youth in our community safe. When we all take action, abuse is preventable. We hope you will join us in our cause in preventing all child abuse.

The Shasta Family YMCA cares. If you suspect child abuse or you are a victim of child abuse, call the Shasta Family YMCA anonymous hotline at 530.232.0610. We will respond to your phone call.

Praesidium's 24/7 helpline is also available at 855.347.0751. This hotline is a way to report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Anonymously, if desired.

The Y’s top priority is the safety and well-being of the children in our care. At YMCAs across the country, staff and volunteers create a culture of safety through proven policies and practices to prevent abuse.

In addition to our policies and daily practices, every April, during Child Abuse Prevention Month, we engage our members, participants, and the broader community in the campaign of Five Days of Action—a week-long campaign designed to raise awareness and inspire adults to take action to protect children from sexual abuse. This year, we’re focusing on helping kids navigate the digital world safely and confidently.

There will be a focus on child protection online and in other digital environments. From social media to online gaming to texting, these spaces are quickly evolving. It’s important that both kids and their caregivers understand the risks and red flags of abuse in the digital space, and how to guard against it.
