Research finds that more than half of all Americans either cannot swim or they do not have a complete set of basic swimming skills. Furthermore, adults who do not know how to swim are reluctant to learn: either due to lack of access to lessons, embarrassment that they do not know how, or that they think it is too late in life to learn. The Y wants to change that.
Knowing how to swim not only saves lives, but it opens the door to water for exercise and recreation. The Y offers both beginner and intermediate group swim lessons, as well as private lessons. Y swim lessons are designed to introduce the participant to water, help them become comfortable in the water, learn and improve basic stroke work, and teach lifesaving skills. Teens are welcome in adult lessons. Classes are available throughout the year. Check the links for availability.
