Camp McCumber Overnight Camp: It’s Cool to Be Kind!
The summer at Camp McCumber Overnight Resident Camp was truly special! The Shasta Family YMCA was overjoyed to welcome so many returning campers — familiar faces who brought their camp spirit with them — and we were just as excited to greet all of our new campers — experiencing the magic of camp for the very first time.
The theme for the week of camp could be summed up in one phrase: "It’s Cool to Be Kind". From the campfire circles to the dining hall and from quiet craft time to waterfront activities, kindness was everywhere. Campers lifted each other up, made new friends, and celebrated each other’s successes — big and small.
Our incredible camp staff brought unmatched enthusiasm, creating joyful memories for everyone. Speaking of joy, this year we added two brand-new waterslides; and, WOW, the laughter and cheers could be heard all the way across the lake!
Whether it was making friendship bracelets, singing under the stars, or racing down the slides, this year, once again, we were reminded why Camp McCumber is more than just a place — it’s a feeling. The Y can’t wait to welcome even more smiling faces next summer!
