Making Life Better

A big thank you to all who participated in our gift-card drive for the Herasymchuk family! Julie Schroeder, the Y's Donor Relations & Development Manager, presented the family with the gift cards.

The Herasymchuk family moved to Redding from Ukraine after fleeing the war. In coming to the US, the Herasymchuk family was forced to leave behind almost everything they owned. The gift cards will help the family get settled and purchase basic essentials.

In addition to the gift cards, thanks to donations to our Financial Assistance Program, the Herasymchuk family is receiving a free membership to the Y and free swim lessons for the entire family. The family has 3 kids, were not good swimmers, now they come to the Y every day to swim.

The mom, Rusiana, says the Y is best thing that could have happened to them. The family is so grateful for the generosity and support. Thank you, community, for showing up with such big hearts! The Y makes life better.

Youth Had The Best Summer Ever

The Y has been providing summer camps and youth programs for generations.

This July, youth had the opportunity to explore nature, discover their talents, try new interests, gain independence, and make lasting friendships and memories at our annual overnight camp hosted at Lake McCumber. Campers engage in daily activities including canoeing, fishing, archery, arts and crafts, hiking, campfires, chapel, and sports. For generations, positive experiences are made at Camp McCumber.

Y Summer Day Camps offer experiences to keep youth having fun all summer long. From fostering creativity to building a sense of accomplishment and belonging, we help kids flourish by surrounding each child with support, guidance, and fantastic opportunities to discover, learn, and try until they succeed. We are dedicated to providing enriching opportunities in a fun and adventurous atmosphere at all of our locations.

In May, we offered free swim lessons to help address the needs of swimming and water safety in our community. Last year, we were able to provide 423 youth safety swim lessons free of charge. Swimming at the Y helps people thrive, in and out of the water. As the community’s leader in swim instruction, we deliver swim lessons and water safety instruction to hundreds of children each year, helping swimmers of all ages gain confidence in the water, overcome fears, and build skills to last a lifetime.
