CMBM Class

The Center for Mind-Body Medicine (CMBM) program is for anyone who has endured psychological trauma and/or stress. Evidence-based strategies are used to relieve personal and professional stress, transform trauma, and promote lifelong health. The CMBM approach heals individual trauma and builds community-wide resilience.

The mind-body approach uses the conscious mind to directly affect the workings of the brain and the rest of the body. The techniques have been proven to create beneficial changes in many of the body’s physiologic responses, and to make a significant clinical difference in conditions as diverse as hypertension, cancer, chronic pain, and insomnia, as well as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The CMBM approach to wellness is grounded in practical, evidence-based skills for self-care, nutrition, self-awareness, and group support.

The Shasta Family YMCA is hosting a Center for Mind-Body Medicine small group to be held at the Y. The 8-week small group provides a safe, confidential space to learn tangible skills to calm the physiological responses to stress. Participants learn a new skill each week (meditation, movement, drawing, writing, guided imagery, biofeedback, etc.) and have the opportunity to share their personal experiences, to whatever level is comfortable. The group facilitator guides the process and also participates in the exercises and discussions. There is no advice given, and nobody tells participants what to do or how to feel at the end. Most participants find that by devoting time to self-care and reflection they are better able to manage their challenges and often find answers that had previously been elusive.

The classes are free but you must commit to participating for all 8 weeks. The current offering is full but see other upcoming classes in the area: CMBM offerings
